Once again Cody proves his complete ignorance of too different to his own understanding of his world. At least he does it through an innocent ignorance, I suppose. Brylcreem probably expects nothing more from him though.
Incidentally, it was while drawing this strip a few months before Chinese New Year that I first realised that Brylcreem was of Chinese heritage. It had never occurred to me – he was just another kid in the playground, blending in with the rest of them into a big, sticky melting pot of runny noses, muddy knees and squished bananas. This is the reason he appeared in earlier storylines working in his family’s Chinese Restaurant. There you go. These characters surprise even us!
Oh, this strip is set on a Melbourne intersection, quite some distance down the highway from wherever it is School Spirit is set. That’s where the big dragon with lots of sequins tends to dance.
